HbA1c (HbA1c) testing is a very important test for diagnosing and monitoring diabetes and pre-diabetes because it can reflect the average blood sugar level over the past 2-3 months. Those who are suitable and should have an HbA1c test are as follows:
1. People with symptoms of diabetes
If you have these symptoms, you should see a doctor for an HbA1c test and other blood sugar tests to confirm the diagnosis:

- Weakness, easily tired
- Blurred vision

- Not exercising or not getting enough physical activity
- High-risk ethnicities: African Americans, Hispanics/Latinos, Native Americans, Alaska Natives, and certain Pacific Islanders and Asians.
3. Those who have been diagnosed with diabetes.
To monitor blood sugar control: People with diabetes usually have their HbA1c tested at least twice a year, or more frequently (e.g., every 3-6 months) if their medications are changed or their blood sugar levels are not controlled to the targets their doctor has recommended.
4. Those who are pregnant.
To screen for gestational diabetes or to monitor blood sugar control in pregnant women with pre-existing diabetes.
