Bone density testing, or bone densitometry, is a test to measure bone density in various parts of the body, such as the spine, hips, wrists, and bones throughout the body, to determine the degree of osteoporosis. This is done using a low-energy X-ray absorptiometry scanner (DEXA scanner) that reflects images of bone tissue, which provides quick, accurate, and safe results.

• Osteoporosis is a condition characterized by decreased bone density, leading to bone weakness and increased susceptibility to fractures, even after a minor injury. Those over 45 are at higher risk of developing osteoporosis. It is more common in women than men. It is a silent killer because there are no symptoms, but you will notice a fracture after it has occurred.

Osteoporosis is assessed using the T-Score as follows

• A T-Score greater than -1 = normal bone density.
• A T-Score between -1 and -2.5 = osteopenia.
