Knee Osteoarthritis program with knee X-ray machine - Nakornthon Hospital
Package details
Knee Osteoarthritis
is a degenerative condition of the articular cartilage, affecting the shape, structure, and function of the joints and the bones surrounding the joints. This damages the cartilage that cushions and facilitates knee movement. As cartilage wears away or disappears, the bones at the ends of the knee joint rub against each other directly during movement. Osteoarthritis is characterized by pain, swelling, stiffness, and limited mobility. If left untreated for a long time, bone spurs may develop within the joint, further limiting movement and ultimately leading to deformity. These changes are irreversible and may progress to progressively more severe degeneration.
What kind of knee pain indicates osteoarthritis?
- Early stage osteoarthritis > Pain during movement, such as walking up and down stairs or sitting with the knee bent.
- Severe osteoarthritis > Severe knee pain, especially at night. With long-term osteoarthritis, the knee joint may be inability to fully extend or bend. Pain occurs when walking or moving, making walking and daily activities difficult.
